Trapped Miners in Chile

I'm following the news about the 33 trapped miners in Chile. They might be rescued soon.

I guess there will be a book and film made to document what happened.

This reminds me of a 1993 movie called 'Alive' (1993) about an Uruguayan plane crash. The survivors resorted to eating the corpses of the other passengers. I don't know why I thought of it, since the two events are unrelated. Maybe something terrible happened to both groups so survival instincts kicked in. The miners have been forced to change their lifestyle - give up almost everything for a couple of months.

How much adversity can a person take? The miners are going through trials in endurance and have exceeded expectations.

I hope they get top side soon!
I met up with my four best friends this afternoon. We had lunch at Furnace.

It's the last time we'll be together for a while. One is leaving on a jet plane, another lives in a different city. We part after group hugs to start these big life changes.

I am a third of the way through my Masters... It's getting serious.

South East Asian Cold Drink

I didn't get boba tea. I got grape nata de coco instead! The photo below showing South East Asian beverages was taken at Ben Thanh Market in Vietnam.

The one from Momo Tea was a light purple slushy with a bit of jelly. A good thirst quencher. You can find it at shop 4, 39 Ward Street. I will go back and try other ones.

There was a complete 180 for the weather today! Spring is properly here.

I got some chai the other day after trying some from a cafe.

The first time a friend mentioned chai I though she was just saying the word tea. That's because chai is simply the word for tea in some parts of the world.

Oh no... now I am craving boba tea.

Spring

It's rainy season. Waiting for the bus is such a hassle. Hail comes into the shelter at almost a horizontal angle. The glass panel for wet weather protection shakes. It might crack at any moment.

I'm glad to be in the office or relaxing at home while it's pouring outside. Makes one appreciate having something to do and a roof over your head.

Watch out for regular posts now that I'm settled into studies.

Pumpkin Pie

Mum made pumpkin pie with bunny decorations. The filling was a bit soft because the mashed pumpkins were from a soup. Yet another way to use up our pumpkins!

I snapped this adorable little critter last week just outside my fence. These spiny mammals are nocturnal and insectivorous. The hairs are made of stiff hollow keratin. I took several pictures. This one was the most focused as it responded to my camera flash by rolling into a ball and a quick getaway. Hedgehogs are useful as pest control in some European regions. People even keep them as pets! They have no natural predators in New Zealand and have become overpopulated by feeding on native insects, snails, lizards and bird eggs.

Wintering in Raglan

Raglan is freezing this time of year. We arrived at sunset.

Dinner at The Shack consisted of winter vegetable soup and followed by tiramisu trifle. I got sick afterwards though. The restaurant had good mood lighting.
